Early Life:
Joe was always outgoing and funny as a kid and started in entertainment with his brother, Michael Hughes,  and signed with the Jack Wormser Talent Agency (now KMR Talent) in the early 1970’s. During this time, Joe studied acting with private acting coach Lois Auer (Auer was also coach to Shannon Daugherty, Bill Mumy and other young actors).
Joe worked on a few TV ad campaigns such as Occidental Life, Marriott’s Hotels, some print work and worked on a documentary which aired in the UK on BBC television.
In High school, Joe participated in drama at Torrance High School under acting coach Charles “Chuck” Slater, he received an honorable mention in a Southern California, regional play competition in 1974 at El Camino College.

Comedy:
In later years, after raising four kids, and having owned his own business, Joe decided to return to entertainment and studied comedy at SF Comedy College with Kurtis Mathews. By 2007, Joe performed on stage opening before the band, The Loving Spoonful, (“do you believe in magic”). Since then, Joe has performed at such comedy clubs as the San Jose Improv, Laughs Unlimited & Punchline Sacramento, Kino’s Komedy in Vancouver B.C., Hollywood Comedy Store, S.F. Comedy Clubhouse, Tommy T’s, Rooster T. Feathers, Nicks Comedy Stop Boston, Comedy Connection Rhode Island, Stand Up NY, Scottsdale Comedy Spot, also was host of a Brea Improv DVD filming. During this time Joe has worked with many well-known comedians such as Larry “Bubbles” Brown, Jimmy Gunn, Maureen Langon, Dan St Paul, Andrew Norelli, Josh Nasar, Fred Stoller, Fred Durst, Kabir Singh, Sammy Obeid, Marc Price (Skippy), Steve Sweeney, Don Gavin, Mike Winfield, Steven Pearl and many others, most recently doing a multi night/town show with actor Angel Salazar.

Tv & Film:
As well as the tv ads for Occidental Life Ins. and Marriott Hotel’s commercials and UK documentary mentioned above, Joe can also be seen playing the part of a super fan in the movie Ball Buster starring Jerry O’Connell, Bobby Slayton, Elizabeth Rohm (release date 12/1/2019) also on the 2015 Wrestlemania prefight show with the Diva’s (the Bella Twins, Natalya and others) on the WWE Network, appeared on Judge Joe Brown in the “Love Boat” episode CBS, auditioned for America’s Got Talent NBC, on Click 6 Orlando “Upbeat News” segment, and has participated as an extra in the filming of the Steve Jobs movie starring Michael Fassbender, Seth Rogen Jeff Daniels and Kate Winslet.

Radio:
Joe was the host of the radio show The Vinyl Thought (2019) on Fcc Free Radio now on archive at Blog Talk Radio, and has also appeared on several other radio programs on stations such as Kpig 107.5, Ksco am 1080, Pirate Cat Radio 87.9 fm, Fccfreeradio.com,107.3 fm SF.

Producing:
Joe has produced and hosted several shows including The April Fool’s Comedy Competition at the San Jose Corinthian Event Center, “Comedy at the Red Caboose”, “Comedy in the Village” in Capitola, “Comedy Night at the Brit” at Britannia Arms in Aptos, Windmill Ridge Comedy Nights, “Old Fashioned Vaudeville Extravaganza” at Don Quixote’s International Music Hall. Joe also worked with the original cast and founders of Ron’s Comedy Farmhouse developing “Comedysurf Productions” and “Joe Hughes Presents” comedy and entertainment productions.

Helping others:
Joe’s community work includes;  producing, hosting and starring in fundraisers for such organizations as Kids Helping Kids in Brentwood, CA., an event for Kwanzaa Festival San Jose, CA., Produced a variety show for the Breathe for Caley Foundation, appeared on American Cancer fundraiser show in the O.C. Ca., starred in and produced a show for A Case for Kids foundation, and provided building involvement with Habitat for Humanity.
